Hush Scrapbook

During the early 70's as well as pursuing an art career I yearned to play in a band.  I was one of the co-founding members of the band Hush which went on to become one of the most successful rock n roll bands in Australia. Throughout that decade Hush had a string of hits and recorded several successful selling albums. Our biggest hit single was a cover version of a 1950's song called Boney Maronie. B.M. went to number one and stayed in that position on the top 40 chart for many weeks. Hush were regular performers on the ABC TV series Countdown. Every Sunday evening at 6pm families around the whole nation would settle down to watch their favourite artist or pop group.

Hush 1974 - 1977

Although Hush is most remembered by their cover hits Boney Maronie & Glad All Over, there are some great original material on our albums. I have selected some of my personal favourites and put them on this page to share with you. I'd recommend you listen with head phones on with the volume up to appreciate the warm clarity of the vinyl recordings.

2006 Reunion

In 2006 Hush were invited by Frontier Touring Company ( Michael Gudinkski in photo ) to reform for a national tour around Australia with other legendary bands and recording artists for the Countdown Spectacular Shows. Performing in huge arenas with audiences of up to 18,000 people, I have to say it was one of my greatest highlights of my music career. Besides the thrill of performing each night, the backstage comaradie with everyone involved was absolutely fantastic. Catching up with many famliar faces and making friends with new ones.

The organisers made sure each and every person involved in the show were looked after. In every city the accommodation was five star and a room each was allocated - how good was that. At every venue there was full on catering for a pre-show dinner - all you can eat and drink. But I must add I was careful not to over indulge before our performance.

At every show we were the band to end the first half. As we waited on the reverse side of the revolving stage, we could hear Molly Meldrum introducung us. The seconds before we were to be exposed to the audience I sometimes would say excitely to Robin "Can you believe we're doing this?" What surprised us the most was that everywhere we played, the audience would all stand up as soon as we appeared and each show ended with a standing ovation. Amazing - after all those years! At the end of the tour a party was arranged at a Brisbane nightclub for everyone involved with the show. Michael Gudinkski made a thank you speech and awarded every single person in the show with an award. A DVD was made of the Melbourne show at the Rod Laver Arena and sold in all the ABC stores. My copy of the DVD is my greatest souvenir I have of the whole experience and I'll be able to re-visit the wonderful memories for years to come.
